Sempatap Thermal Lining Paper

About Sempatap Thermal Solid Wall Insulation

Sempatap Thermal solid wall insulation is 10mm thick, specifically developed as solid wall insulation and has been in use in the UK and Europe for over 20 years successfully installed in 1,000’s of flats and houses by Local Authorities, Housing Associations, private Landlords and homeowners. It is a remarkable thermal insulation which, when applied inside the property on the external walls, substantially reduces heat loss, making rooms immediately feel warmer. It is often referred to as “magic wallpaper”, “insulated wallpaper” or ‘flexible insulating lining paper’.

Sempatap Thermal is as simple as wallpaper to apply with hardly any mess and can be decorated with virtually any finish – emulsion, wallpaper – it can even be tiled. The thermal lining paper can be redecorated with no problem and has a life expectancy of 30 years. It can be easily applied on a DIY basis and there is an application DVD available for all homeowners living in hard to heat homes wishing to undertake DIY interior wall insulation.

Another big benefit is Sempatap Thermal solid wall insulation can be applied on a rolling programme when each room is being decorated – thus keeping any disruption to a minimum and also keeping outlay costs to a minimum.

If you have a problem with cold walls or condensation on walls, this thermal wallpaper is a great solution.

Energy Efficiency

Sempatap Thermal lining paper has been tested by the National Physical Laboratory and figures produced by the Building Research Establishment show considerable carbon saving. It will reduce the ‘u’ value by nearly 30%. In fact on a three bedroom semi detached house the annual carbon savings are 798kg, 119kg higher than cavity fill.

The energy savings using Sempatap Thermal are dramatic providing warmer living conditions within the home, helping to lower heating bills and reducing heat loss through cold walls. SEMPATAP THERMAL can be used to insulate cold walls and can also be applied to ceilings, it can be installed in any type of solid wall home including solid brick, solid stone, concrete and homes with mansard roofs, dormer ceilings and park homes.

As Sempatap Thermal is only 10mm thick it does not dramatically reduce the room size, it is particularly useful on gable end walls with staircases where the width is critical. The flexible nature of Sempatap Thermal when it is being applied allows it to follow contours reflecting the nature and character of some older dwellings. However, it will also provide a new sound “blank canvas” for decorating on the internal wall areas of more standard solid wall properties.

Sempatap Thermal has been the subject of five Innovation Programmes, which independently demonstrate the product’s effectiveness as solid wall insulation. Sempatap Thermal solid wall insulation was winner of the Gold Award in the 2009 Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage, was runner up in the 2008 National Energy Efficiency Awards and received a Certificate of Merit from the National Home Improvement Council

Sempatap Thermal lining paper is the easy to use, economical solution for reducing heat loss and lowering CO2 emissions in solid wall homes. It makes the property more energy efficient and immediately provides a warmer and more comfortable environment whilst helping to protect against climate change.

Thermal Image

In the before image, inconsistent temperatures can be seen in red and yellow colours indicating heat loss due to poor detailing or missing/ damaged insulation. Warmer temperatures are seen on the bottom level of this property suggesting heating is on compared to the above level; however it could simply be there is no insulation at all. Analysis of the property after insulation reveals significantly reduced heat loss across the elevation suggesting a much more energy efficient property.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.   If I wallpaper can I redecorate?

A.   Yes, no problem. SEMPATAP THERMAL lining paper has a fibreglass surface and will not be affected by using a steam stripper or hot soapy water. Should you accidentally damage SEMPATAP THERMAL with a wallpaper scraper, make good with polyfiller or plasterer’s mate.

Q.   How long will it last?

A.   As long, if not longer than plasterboard. The Energy Saving Trust give SEMPATAP THERMAL a life expectancy of thirty years.

Q.   Will it stop condensation?

A.   SEMPATAP THERMAL is excellent for these problems because it makes the wall surface warm and moisture will not condense on warm surfaces. If you have black mould on the walls you must treat it first with MGC MOULD ERADICATION KIT.

Q.   Can I use SEMPATAP THERMAL on the ceiling?

A.   Yes, SEMPATAP THERMAL can be put on both walls and ceilings. It is particularly good if you have a flat roof property or extension or on concrete ceilings. Watch the application video here.

Q.   Can I use SEMPATAP THERMAL on the floor?

A.   We have a specially designed variety for floors called SEMPAFLOOR which is easy to fit and very good on all types of floors. Watch the application video here.

Q.   Is SEMPATAP THERMAL good for noise reduction?

A.   Yes, not only does it have outstanding thermal properties but it can be used for sound insulation.
